What is the difference between wish and goal

With that in mind, meditate on how you would want to feel around one year from now. Setting a goal instead of making a wish is a vital initial step in securing your dreams a tangible reality. Goals are something you are following up on, while wishes are something you are merely thinking about. Goals require action. Dreams can occur without lifting a finger, even when you are sleeping. Goals have deadlines. Wishes are simply, well, wishes. Goals have a time limit. Dreams can last forever.

Many individuals maintain aspirations their whole lives without ever accomplishing even one. Wishes are free. Goals have a cost. It does not cost a thing to wish for something; however, goals come with a price; money, effort, time, and sweat. These are the ways you pay for your goals. Goals produce results, while wishes don't. Need to change your job? Your life? Your status? Goals can do that.

Wishes are imaginary. Goals are based on reality, and they are about what you can achieve. They are grounded in the realities of life. However, objectives ought to be big, yet not supernatural. Goals have a finish line. Dreams never need to end. They don't need to have an ending point. Goals must have a particular result. Wishes can inspire you.

For example, I was in conversation with a gentleman, and I asked him my usual question, "What is your goal for the future? Because winning the national lottery is not something that depends on your daily performance. It is a pure chance event. The chances of you winning the National Lottery is approximately 1 in 14 million.

So, we can safely assume that the lottery win is not a goal, but a wish. Here is another example of a confusion between a wish and a goal. I asked a lady at work my usual question, "What are your goals for the future? Now, this reply sounds better than the lottery reply, but there is still something wrong with it. What is wrong with the statement, "My goal is to be happy and successful"?

It is too vague. It is ill-defined. The statement is non-specific. We don't know what would make her happy and we don't know what would have to happen for her, before she could define herself as being "successful". Maybe, she does not know herself, how she defines happiness and how she defines success. Certainly, it is true that many people struggle to define these terms. Many people have big problems answering the question, " What does it mean to say that someone is happy?

In relation to the lady who said her goal was to be happy and successful, we still don't know anything about her ambitions. The fact is that everyone wants to be happy and successful. The question is, what would make you feel happy and successful. Or to put it another way, "What goals, if you achieved them, would cause you to think that you were successful and would therefore make you feel happy?

Saying that your goal is to be happy and successful does not answer the question. It merely begs the same question. Let us define our terms and state the definition of a goal and contrast it to a wish.

A goal or purpose is a specific statement of intent. Goals name the objective that our actions are intended to achieve. Goals may be tangible or intangible.

Tangible goals are those that consist of material things, such as a nicer house, or car, or a gold medal at the next competition, or a pass mark in the next exam; or a certain amount of money, or a different body weight. It takes careful planning, action steps, and perseverance.

It sounds simple, but an important part of meeting that goal is to keep its importance in the front of your mind and just keep at it. No effort toward your goal is ever wasted. Don't let little set backs derail you. Depending on your goal, it may take some time to see tangible results. That's ok. Keep moving yourself closer and closer to your goal and never give up.

It's easy for all of us to wish for better health and fitness. Do you have a wish? Or a goal? If it's still in the wish stage, take the next step and create a goal and action plan from it to get you where you want to be. If it is a goal and something you really believe in, you have the power to make it happen.
