Should i learn esperanto or spanish

But it's easy for me to say this because I have done it already before. Once you do it once, every time after that becomes so much easier. Esperanto fits the bill because it was designed to be easy and material to learn it is very easy to come across. As well as this there are a lot of speakers who will be happy to help you, both online and in lots of places in person. As I said at the start, even if there was just one guy to talk to and the material available to study, it would still work for the purposes described here.

What is actually true is that there are millions of Esperanto speakers all over the world. I've met up with them many times and had lots of fun click the last link to see me trying out my pathetic skills as an actor in the language.

I'm not looking for an ideal utopian society when I go to these week-long events where everything karaokes, dinner menus, games, tours… is in Esperanto. I go to find people I get along with really well, since there are a surprisingly large number of other polyglots , travelers, vegetarians , Linux users , non-drinkers and many open-minded people there. There are lots of large events all around the world, or you can just find some speakers in your city to practise with, although you can already do a lot online.

The Internet has plenty of Esperanto content; the Esperanto Wikipedia has more than , entries more than Arabic. You can find an active forum and a fantastic free learning resource with a great language learning course, a dictionary, a chat room etc. In fact, the content not just the confidence of Esperanto will help you in learning a lot of European languages! When I tried to learn German in school, the Accusative seemed very complicated. Even the name sounds like you are blaming someone.

The accusative exists in Esperanto it's one of the very few bits of grammar, there only so you can have any word order you like , but its use is a lot clearer. Getting used to it there meant that it wasn't so weird to add an -n in German either. Even if you are learning a non-European language, the confidence you would gain in being able to communicate would bring you miles ahead. Also, this will be the reason why people will know that you are not a native speaker, even if you learn a language for many years and live in a country where its spoken for several more years.

I don't know a single person who learned German in school even if they started in primary school and who speaks it in a way that you don't immediately know that it's not a native speaker. For instance, my former supervisor a professor from Poland learned the language in school for many years and lives in Austria now for more than twenty years. She speaks German all day, but after one sentence you know, she is not a native speaker.

And believe me, she is an extremely intelligent person. Anyway, once again, I'm a bit off topic. Coming back to the topic: I think that the fact that Spanish receives more attention mostly in the US right now, is a reason that Esperanto has better chances to flourish. Also other languages like Chinese, maybe Russian, maybe Japanese receive more attention during several years. If there is one "strong" language English and no serious competitor worldwide , this one language will become the "world language" and everybody would say "Why not learn this language?

Most people speak it. So the rise of Spanish, Chinese, Russian I'd think if there is such a "threat" it'd be English more than Spanish. After all the only reason I don't spend more time on learning other languages is because even though most of my friends speak English as a second language, I don't know anyone who doesn't speak English at all.

And all of them were required to take at least 6 years of English in school, if not more. Yet here in the US we're only required to take 2 years of another language, and that's only if we're going to college.

T0dd 6. This story at Libera Folio is pretty interesting. The need for a single official language for documents, legislation, etc. Although Esperanto has been discussed and that's the "news" of the article , English is the favorite, with French a distant and unhappy second. For many people, the search for an international language is over. English has won. It has achieved a critical mass, in terms of global dispersion, and will not be dislodged.

I don't believe this myself, but I can see why people do. English is not particularly easy. It is not neutral. But it is useful. Knowing English opens doors to jobs, contacts, millions of internet resources, movies, books, pop music, youtube videos and more. We have to ask: Who cares about neutrality in a language. The answer appears to be, idealists, intellectuals, and nationalists of one sort or another--and various combinations of the three. Who cares about how easy the language is?

If you have many, study them at the same time. I study German and English for example, and I want to get fluency in both at once. For you, i think it's better if you learn Spanish since you already have people to practice with and reasons. Both Esperanto and Spanish both considered easy languages to learn although Esperanto actually created to be easy to learn. But if you want to learn Esperanto that's fine too, it's going to help you a lot despite unsure number of speakers. I do think you can make the best choice for yourself.
